What is a SIM Only plan?
A SIM Only plan gives you data, calls and texts — without a bundled handset. You use your own unlocked phone. Because the network is not financing a device, SIM Only plans are almost always significantly cheaper than equivalent Pay Monthly deals.
Contract lengths
- 30-day rolling: cancel with 30 days notice at any time. Maximum flexibility, typically slightly more expensive.
- 12-month: balance of savings and flexibility. Easy to reassess after the year.
- 24-month: lowest monthly cost but locked in for two full years.
Annual price rises — 2026
O2 rises £2.50/month each April. Three rises £1.80–£1.90/month each April — 30-day rolling plans are exempt. EE rises £2.50/month from March. Vodafone rises £2.50/month each April. Tesco Mobile Clubcard Price plans freeze your price for the full contract duration. Sky Mobile rises are RPI-linked with a 30-day exit right. Since January 2025, all rises must be disclosed upfront in exact pounds and pence.
Key checks before buying
- Phone unlocked? All UK phones sold since December 2021 must be supplied unlocked. Older locked phones: contact your previous network to unlock free of charge.
- Coverage at your postcode: use the Ofcom checker at checker.ofcom.org.uk before committing.
- 5G included? Confirm whether 5G is included free on your chosen tier or costs extra.
- EU roaming: if you travel to Europe, confirm your specific plan includes it free — or factor in the daily charge cost.
